Robert Norton

Robert W. Norton, age 98, of Wyoming, Minnesota passed away on December 31, 2013. He was born on September 8, 1915 to Walter and Bertha in Afton, Iowa. Robert was a loving husband of 70 years, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to many. Robert lived through the Great Depression, during which he put himself through college, becoming a licensed pharmacist in the State of Iowa on June 9th, 1938. On November 23, 1940, Robert married Violet E. (Sharp), his lifetime sweetheart. In 1941 Pearl Harbor entered into infamy, and Robert answered his country's call by enlisting in the US Navy as a Chief Pharmacist Mate for four years. After World War II Robert came back to Violet. Together in 1948, they started a 22 year successful restaurant/locker plant business in Worthington, MN. As a successful business owner, Robert became a leader in the community, was a member of the local hospital board, and helped start St. John's Episcopal Church. In 1966 Robert returned to the field of pharmacy and a successful additional 17 year career as a pharmacist. In 1983 Robert and Violet moved to Chisago City to retire where they enjoyed spending time with grandchildren and friends, fishing, and playing golf. In 1999 Robert and Violet moved in with their son's (Scott) family where they enjoyed their family close-up. In Violet's last year's Robert cared for her until she passed on September 11, 2010. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Bertha; wife, Violet; sisters, Ada (Bill), Irene (Art), and Bessie; and daughter, Sheila. He is survived by his son-in-law, Andy; son, Scott (Gloria); grandchildren, Rachel, Aaron (Nikki), Ethan (Sarah), Andrea (Dennis), Adam (Jackie), Isaiah (fiancée Katie), MaggieLynn, AnnaMarie; great grandchildren, Lucas, Ben, Chloe, Joe, Noah, Faith, Esther, Tristan; brother-in-law, Kay; nieces Kathy, Lisa, Diane and their families; nephews, Wayne, Donnie and their families; other family and friends. Memorial Services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Maranatha Assembly of God Church, 10963 Lake Blvd., Chisago City, Minnesota. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
