Robert Carl Victor Rosenquist Sr., age 89, of Hugo, MN, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

Bob's life was guided by his love and dedication to family and friends. In keeping with his usual daily cell phone communications with family, he was texting with a granddaughter just moments before his death.

Bob was born May 9, 1935, to Carl and Jennie (Jackson) Rosenquist in St. Paul, MN. He graduated from Johnson High School in 1953 and enlisted in the United States Navy. Not too long after, he met Marilyn Fay Weideman and was married on February 10, 1962. In 1972, Bob and Marilyn bought 40 acres in Hugo, MN and built their home and hobby farm.

Bob was active-duty Navy followed by Naval Reserve Service until 1965. He was stationed at the U.S. Naval Air Station in Minneapolis and served as a flight engineer on the P2V (submarine hunter) aircraft. Following his career in the service, he went on to be a construction manager for Acton Construction. Later, he worked as a commercial building inspector for the City of Roseville until his retirement.

His love of flying led to him and Marilyn owning and flying a Beechcraft Musketeer. For many years, Bob brought his family to the annual Experimental Aircraft Association Air Show in Oshkosh, WI. They later took up another hobby that relies on air currents – but at a slower speed. The whole family and many friends enjoyed a Hunter sailboat on Lake Pepin. Marilyn led Bob to learn and love farming and riding horses– spending many summers making hay and trail riding. Their avid trail riding led them to buying their first camper, spurring a love of camping in Bob. Over the years Bob and Marilyn enjoyed a family cabin, truck camper and then RV traveling with grandchildren and their dogs. In recent decades, Bob and Marilyn traveled annually in the RV with family to both Two Harbors, Minnesota and Hart Ranch in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

Bob often joked that he was busier in retirement than when he was working, between spending time with the grandkids and volunteering. He served on the Hugo City Planning Commission two different times for a total of 21 years. He also served on the Washington County Conservation Board. Bob was a long-time member of Elim Lutheran Church in Scandia, MN, where he served on the church council for many years.

Bob was well known for his constancy and reliability. He loved to “get the gossip” while catching up with family and friends, always there with a listening ear and advice at the ready. He maintained very regular contact with family, including nieces and nephews, and friends from all of his life activities.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marilyn; his children, Bob (Kristi) Rosenquist and Sue (Walter) Rosenquist; and his three grandchildren, Michael Slater, Megan Slater and Abigail Rosenquist. He is also survived by his brother Richard Rosenquist and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Jennie Rosenquist, and sister-in-law Dolores Rosenquist.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at Elim Lutheran Church, 20971 Olinda Trail North, Scandia, Minnesota. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m., until the time of service at the church. Burial at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.

Memorial donations in Bob’s name can be directed to Elim Lutheran Church, Scandia, MN.
