Roger John Slater

Husband, Father, Brother, Grandfather

Age 79, of Wyoming, Minnesota; formerly of Hugo and Fairmont Minnesota.  Passed away peacefully at home on February 5, 2023.  

Roger was born son of Elsie Mae (nee Snow) & John Arthur Slater, on October 10, 1943 in Racine, Wisconsin.  He grew up in Fairmont, Minnesota and graduated from Fairmont Senior High School.  He volunteered for the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, and served aboard the U.S.S. Chicago. 

He married Sandra Jeanne DeMert in 1966 and they lived in Riverside, California, Portland Oregon, and Hugo, Minnesota, raising two daughters.  In Minnesota, he worked as a commercial printer at Data Documents & Royal Printing.  He was an avid, four-season, Minnesota sportsman, enjoying his property on Mabel Lake near Remer, Minnesota. 

He is survived by his daughters, Tammy (Eric) Galler & Rachell (Jim) Wisner; grandsons, Jack Galler, Mitchell & Matthew Wisner; siblings, John Slater, Sharon Mueller, James Slater; many other relatives and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sandra, who passed away in 2011; his parents; his siblings, Nyla Bushman, Stanley Slater, Steven Slater. 

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 11, 2023 at New Life Lutheran Church, 6000 North 148th St., Hugo, Minnesota.  The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  Memorials preferred to New Life Lutheran Church, Hugo and the Wounded Warrior Project.
