Roy Herman Anderson
May 18, 1925 - July 15, 2006
Roy was born in Big Stone County, Minnesota the third of nine children of Raynard and Hannah Anderson. Raised on the farm, he left home at a young age and was baptized at 18 by Max Ward Randall. He graduated from Minnesota Bible College in 1951 and received a Master's Degree in Psychology from St. Francis College in 1969.
Roy and his wife Wilma ministered in churches all over the country, including Island Lake and Sheldon, Wisconsin, Forest Lake, Minnesota, West Islip, New York, Garrett and LaPorte, Indiana, Alexandria, Minnesota, and Fallbrook and Sun City, California. He established several hospital chaplaincy programs and served as chaplain at the Elizabeth Hospice in Escondido California for ten years.
Roy married Wilma Helen Klaschen on June 8, 1949 in Cherokee, Iowa, where they began their 57 year marriage. Roy and Wilma have 6 children; Connie, Mark, Brian, Scott, Karen and Mary; 7 grandchildren, Shawna, Traci, Kelsey, Hannah, Claire, Sean and Sarah; and 4 great grandchildren; Katelynd, Dominic, Kevin and Madelyn. Roy is survived by his 4 sisters, Selma, Delores, Myrna and Joann and 2 brothers, Lawrence and Earl. During his life, Roy was a 43-year member of the Rotary Club, serving as founding president in Alexandria. He was always active in the community participating in the Lions Club, Cub Scouts, United Way, MBC Alumni Association, to name a few. He was also an avid gardener, frequented auctions and loved antiques.
