Ruth Emelie Dahlberg Hjort, age 96 of Stacy, died Friday, May 4, 2007. Ruth was born January 20, 1911 in St. Paul. She was the youngest of 11 children of Andrew and Petra Nelli Dahlberg. Her father was one of the founders of Coon Lake Covenant Church that was built on the Dahlberg farm. Ruth was 16 years old when her mother died of tuberculosis, leaving the household chores in her charge, as her brothers did the farm work. She met and married Victor Andrew Hjort on March 29, 1930, an accordion player, somewhat to her father's dismay. But she deeply loved Victor, and his music, all through their married life. Their family grew with the birth of their son: Richard, his wife: Marlys, two grandchildren: Darwin and his wife Kelly, and Danitta, and two great grandchildren: Curtis and Eric. Ruth greatly enjoyed her family, gardening, camping and fishing with Victor, birds and her needlework. Coffee was always on for their many friends. They lived on their farm until the spring of 1996, when illness then caused the move to Green Acres Care Center where Victor passed away on June 7th of that year. "Always together" was the way they shared their lives with us. Ruth's spirit has now joined hands with Victor's to continue their journey, always together.
