Ruth O. Larssen was born on January 27, 1913 in Wyoming, Minnesota. Her father was Carl J. Peterson, born in Sweden, and mother was Jennie Olsen, Born in Norway. She lost both her parents before she was ten years old. She and her older sister Florence were adopted by their uncle Anton, who had taken the name Fingal. There she was growing up with five Fingal siblings. In her teens, she went to the Minnehaha Academy and later graduated from the then, two-year North Park College of the Covenant Church in Chicago. She worked in a number of jobs in that city, often as personal secretary, and ended up as the secretary of the public relations manager at the Kiwanis International Headquarters in Chicago. It was at that time she met Per, who had recently arrived from Norway. They were married on November 6, 1954. The following day they drove to Henderson, Nevada, where Per had accepted a position. After about a year and a half, they moved to California, where Per worked as a scientist in the aerospace Industry. They have since lived in their home in Orange County. Ruth, being a homemaker, wanted to get back to work and was personal secretary of three of the directors of "Open Doors with Brother Andrew", who smuggled Bibles behind the Iron and Bamboo Curtains. She also worked with Corrie Ten Boom, who wrote the book, "The Hiding Place". Ruth was the proofreader of the publications coming out of the two offices. Ruth lived a long and good life, liked to travel, wrote poetry, loved children, and was the constant companion of her husband Per. Preceded in death by sister, Florence Hallberg. Survived by husband of 56 years, Per; nephews, Gene Hallberg of Forest Lake, Ken Hallberg of New Brighton, and niece, Kay Miller of Lakewood, Colorado; brothers-in-law, Jan Hilding of Stockholm, Sweden; Einar of Trondheim, Norway; Yngve of Skien, Norway; and other extended family and friends. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Linwood Covenant Church, 6565 Viking Blvd. N.E., Wyoming, Minnesota. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Interment at Victor Hill Cemetery, Coon Lake, Minnesota.
