Sheila Remak

July 15, 1957 — November 26, 2011

Sheila Kaye Remak Sheila Norton was born in Sioux City, Iowa to her loving parents Violet and Bob Norton. She grew up in Worthington, Minnesota where she graduated from high school. She went on to attend Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa where she majored in German and Spanish. While at college she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She also developed special bonds with two of her language professors with whom she corresponded for many years. With full scholarships she continued her graduate schooling in Portland Oregon, University of Oklahoma, and finally at Indiana University where she earned her Masters degree. At each of these institutions of learning she was a teaching assistant. By this time Sheila had also studied abroad in both Mexico and Germany. Throughout her years of education she accomplished academic excellence consistently getting "A's". Sheila excelled in learning; when you hear her accomplishments, you may think that it was a gift she had. In reality, learning was a struggle. I believe the love she had for travel and languages gave her the desire to set goals and work extremely hard. You might say one of her spiritual gifts may have been persistence. Dad and Mom were very proud of Sheila. Still, Dad said him and Mom started wondering when Sheila would settle down and get a job, putting all that schooling to use. In 1971 Sheila accepted a teaching position in a middle school located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There she met and fell in love with her future husband, Andy Remak. Andy and Sheila were married June 17, 1972. Sheila continued teaching German, Spanish, English, and journalism for fifteen years and enjoyed traveling with Andy many summers. In 1986 they welcomed their daughter Rachel into the family and Sheila changed her full time focus to raising her daughter. As life goes, no one knows what is around the corner. Soon after her teaching career ended Sheila experienced a Job-like (difficult) period. For many years Sheila fought with numerous allergies, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, sleep, and other health issues which were disabling to her in a myriad of ways, often times to a point which went beyond the understanding of those around her. During this time, consisting of too many years to count, Sheila found strength in Christ's promises and tender mercies. Prayer for Sheila's health was a constant mainstay with her Mom and Dad. She surrounded herself with godly music, teachings, books, pictures, movies, and scripture that reminded her of God's truth. Synonymous with her character she fought hard and sought to be healed. She experienced many of Christ's healings in her body, including breast cancer, which she would be quick to share with you. Out of her experience and personal faith in Christ came a compassion to listen and to pray for others with boldness, expectancy, and power. In one of her Bibles Sheila highlighted Ezekiel, Chapter 10 and wrote a description of how she saw herself: "I am a cog on the wheel of intercession to birth revival fire! - Wheels of fire." Sheila trusted in Christ to develop an 'Armor of God' ministry that encouraged believers to claim and to confess God's healing promises. Sheila loved her family and was delighted with her grandson, Lucas, now age 6. Sheila and Lucas had many good times together, leaving memories alive. Sheila's faith was grounded in Christ. Her desire to serve Him was sacrificial. While in pain, very sick and dying her choice was to pray for and encourage others. She is sure to have heard Christ tell her "Good and Faithful servant, you have run the race well!" Sheila is preceded in death by her mother, Violet; aunt Phyllis (Gaylord); uncles Bobby and Keith. She is survived by her husband, Andy; daughter, Rachel; grandson, Lucas; father, Bob; brother, Scott (Gloria); nieces, Andrea (Dennis), MaggieLynn, AnnaMarrie; nephews, Aaron (Nikki) and family, Ethan (Sarah) and family, Adam (Jackie), Isaiah; uncle Kay (Donna) and family; cousins, Don (Pam) and family, Kathy (Tim) and family, Wayne (KathyJo) and family, Lisa (Dave) and family, Diane and family, Sarah; and many other relatives, and friends. We, her family, and friends miss her very much but take comfort knowing she is now in heaven!
