Theodore M. Nelson, age 81,
of Greeley, CO, formerly of North Branch, MN
Died July 24, 2006.
He graduated from North Branch High School in North Branch, MN. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II and was awarded a Purple Heart. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota and his first teaching job was in Forest Lake, MN.
He married Dona Mae Holter in Valley City, ND on July 11, 1952. Ted earned his PhD from the University of Minnesota in 1961. He accepted a position at the Counseling and Test Center at Colorado State College in 1962 and moved his family to Greeley in a cattle truck.
His first office was in Cranford Hall. While at UNC he served as Dean of Students, Vice President of Academic Affairs, and Special Assistant to the President. During his tenure at UNC, he was instrumental in creating the Emotional Crisis Workshop. He served on the Board of Weld Mental Health, the Harmony Foundation and was a member of the First Congregational Church.
Dona passed away in 1981 after a long illness. He married Leahbeth Bernard in 1984. They later divorced.
Ted was proud of his Norwegian heritage and took his three daughters to Norway in 2000.
Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dona; brother, Eugene "Fritz" Nelson.
Survived by his daughters, Shan (Richard) Craven of Greeley, CO, Thea Nelson of Vinalhaven, ME, Maja (Robert) Kotmel of Burlingame, CA; grandchildren, Rory Craven of Boston, MA, Riley Craven of Greeley, CO, Shea Craven of Greeley, CO, Samantha Kotmel of Burlingame, CA and Jessica Kotmel of Burlingame, CA.
Graveside service will be 10:00am, Saturday, July 29, 2006 at Scandanavian Cemetery in Forest Lake, MN. Memorials may be made to the Weld County Humane Society in care of Allnutt Funeral Home, 702 13th St., Greeley, CO 80631.
