Verna Sandberg, age 85, of Forest Lake, Minnesota went home to be with the Lord on August 14. She was born July 1, 1922 to Herbert and Florence (Edling) Malcolm in Minneapolis. She was the oldest of four children. Verna graduated with a two-year teaching degree and taught at Hay Lake School in Scandia. She taught at Annandale, Columbia Heights, Blackduck and substituted while raising her family. As they grew older she attended and graduated from St. Cloud State College with a Bachelor of Science in 1970. She taught in Lindstrom and Chisago City, teaching for a total of 16 years. She met Maynerd as a family frind and the romance started with a trip down the Mississippi river on a paddleboat. They dated for about a year, then they were engaged but Maynerd went into service. They were married on the boot camp leave and had 61 years together. She served the Lord in many areas. She has been a Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, she worked with AWANA. She enjoyed singing and playing the piano for many church functions. She was involved with a variety of church ministries, including missions. She went to Africa for two years a a home school coordinator and had charge of the library in Karawa, Zaire. She was a mother, teacher, pianist, and very active in the church and missions, she will be missed by all. She was preceded in death by three siblings: Milly, Donald and Lowell. Survived by devoted husband, Maynerd of 61 years and their children, Vermae (Merlyn) Matheson, Daniel Sandberg, Deborah (Richie) Dahlberg; five grandchildren; six, almost eight great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other extended family. Celebration of the Resurrection is at 11am, Saturday, August 18, 2007 at Crossroads Covenant Church, 17445 Notre Dame Street, Forest Lake. Visitation from 5-8pm, Friday, August 17, 2007 at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake and one hour prior to service at the church. Burial in Victor Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Advanced Leadership Training Center, New Delhi, India.
