Walter A. Carlson, age 84, of Blaine, Minnesota died Monday, March 9, 2020. Walter was born June 17, 1935 in Pepin County, Wisconsin the son of C. Elmer and Bessie (Ruggles) Carlson. The family moved to Minnesota when Walt was a young boy. In the summer of 1956, Walt met Edith Hyde at a roller-skating rink. It was love at first sight. They dated for three weeks before they were united in marriage, a marriage that spanned almost 64 years. They made their home in Minneapolis, and later Coon Lake Beach before his work transferred them to Des Moines, Chicago and back to Minnesota. Upon their return they built a home in East Bethel and then Sunrise where they lived for 20 years. They moved to Blaine, Minnesota following a traumatic brain injury Walt sustained from a fall. His health continued to decline and in 2016 he moved to Birchwood Health Care Center for long term care. Walt made a career as a diesel mechanic. He loved puttering on things in his garage, motors, cars, you name it. Walt is preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Katie Carlson; son-in-law, Michael Born; siblings, Glen, Ralph, Lawrence, Alice Busse. He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Edith; children, Bonita Born, Rick Carlson, Timothy (Sandra) Carlson, Jeanette (Kevin) Bussen, Kevin (Jennifer) Carlson; grandchildren, Brandon Carlson, Christopher Born, Suzanna Annis, Kimberly Morris, Molly Elian Carlson, Steven Bebeau, Jeremy Bussen, Michael Bussen, Leanna Carlson, Heather Carlson, Allysa Carlson, Jessica Carlson; fourteen great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, family and friends.
