Walter "Wally" Lee Srock

April 7, 1938 — July 28, 2024

Scandia

Walter Lee Srock “Wally, Bun, Bampa” of Scandia, MN, passed away on July 28, 2024, at the age of 86.

Wally was born April 7, 1938, in New Ulm, MN – the third child of William A. and Selma E. Srock. The family lived on farms in several places before settling in Scandia, MN. Wally grew up helping on the family farm and loved the farm life – eventually moving to a farm of his own. He farmed all his life and was out in the fields on one of his many tractors just a few months before his death. He took great joy and pride in his extensive (IH) collection of farm equipment. His strong work ethic extended beyond the farm to working in trucking for many years – initially as a driver to Alaska with K&W Trucking and then as a dispatcher for Tok Distributing then Alaska Direct Transport. Wally also opened his small engine repair shop that was a reliable mainstay in Scandia and beyond from 1971 to 2023. He was a firm believer in “work before play”. Wally’s other love was his family. He married Bonnie Summers and had his first two children William and Liza. They were married for 3 years before divorcing. Wally was then lucky enough to meet and marry Lois Lindblom on September 14, 1968, and they had three children Baby Boy Srock, Tamara and Kenneth. He appreciated his children, parents, sisters and their families were able to gather together on a regular basis and especially appreciated when his kids helped on the farm as well as his many years working with Kenny at the small engine repair shop. His family has good memories of Wally’s “skill” for acquiring things – whether it was finding “treasures” alongside the road or unclaimed freight from the trucking company (how could you live without a 56-pound box of Rice Krispies or a 20-pound block of chocolate that had to be chiseled when you wanted a piece.) Wally also enjoyed the close-knit nature of the farming community, driving his 1957 Thunderbird Aqua Blue convertible in local parades and challenging any takers to a game of cribbage.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Selma; son, Baby Boy Srock; daughter, Liza Leanne Srock; sisters, Orphy Beattie and Shirley Radke; brother-in-law, Paul Lindblom and grandson Tony Jasa.

He is survived by wife, Lois; children, William Srock-Bunker (wife Janet); daughter, Tamara Srock; son, Kenneth Srock (wife Jody); grandchildren, Megan, Jeremy, Megan, Benjamin, Aaron; great grandchildren, Grace, Alex, Devin, Madison, Lexi, Parker and Ellie as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

The family will greet friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 7th, 2024, at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 8th, 2024, at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake.
