William "Bill" Turenne, age 72 of Scandia, died peacefully while surrounded by his family on Thursday, August 4, 2011. William was born July 1, 1939 in International Falls, Minnesota, the son of Joseph and Ovelina (Graton) Turenne. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. During his time in the military he met his beloved Judy while they were both stationed in Germany. They were united in marriage on March 20, 1965 at St. Pascal's Catholic Church, Saint Paul, Minnesota. Bill was employed with Burlington Northern Railroad for 30 years. In his "younger" years, he enjoyed softball, bowling and broomball. In his retirement years, he enjoyed bird watching, wildlife, building puzzles, watching old movies and his scratch offs with the lottery. Most of all he enjoyed the time spent with his family, especially with his adored grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 46 years, Judy; children, Cynthia (Keith) Locnikar, Joseph (Dawn), Jennifer (Thomas) Gajeski, William (fiancée Kerri Lumm); eleven grandchildren, Amber, Laura, Sarah and Emily Locnikar, Joseph III, Samuel and Benjamin Turenne, Thomas Gajeski Jr., Maranda and Anthony Zaccone, Makayla Turenne, Nicholas Lumm; two brothers, Theodore and Robert (Grace) Turenne; four sisters, Annette (Edward) Lewanski, Betty Jensen, Anna Branchaud, Mary Ann Cegon; other family and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at the Church of Saint Peter, 1250 South Shore Drive, Forest Lake. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake. Family interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
